2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider is Shown Public

McLaren expanded its line of supercars with the addition of the second model, new 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider. It is ready for order, pricing starts from $268,250 including destination.

The convertible appears just a year after the launch of the MP4-12C hard-top and gets the latest features brought with the 2013 update. It means that output from its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 is a great 616 horsepower and 442lb-ft of torque.

The new roof system may be operated at speeds of up to 19mph, lowering or raising the roof takes 17 seconds. Top speed remains an impressive 204mph, it’s just 3mph less than the hard-top’s top speed.

Thanks to the McLaren’s carbon fiber ‘MonoCell’ chassis, there is no additional strengthening was required for the 2013 MP4-12C Spider. The result is impressive, sports car is almost identical to its hard-top equivalent, and the weight is only 88lb more with convertible option. Overall weight of the MP4-12C Spider with all fluids on board is 3,200 pounds.

While there is no large weight gain, performance of the 2013 MP4-12C Spider almost matches that of the fixed roof equivalent. With dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox in its most intense setting, 0-60mph acceleration takes just 3.1 seconds and the quarter mile is passed in 10.8 seconds at impressive speed of 134mph.

Behind the sits of driver and passenger a rear windscreen can also be electronically raised and lowered. While the roof is lowered it works as wind deflector, and while the roof is raised the rear window may still be lowered, that allows you to hear the engine’s nice exhaust sound.

Also when the roof is raised there is 1.8 cubic feet of storage space. Bespoke luggage was designed specifically to fit into this space and is provided as a standard with the vehicle. Rollover protection system is fitted with the tall buttresses that contain a steel structure that designed for absorbing the impact energy and protect the passengers.

Interior design is almost the same as that is in the fixed roof model. But some new features are available across the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C range, including Alcantara trim and semi-aniline perforated leather. You can see also a new 19-inch wheel pattern for MP4-12C and vehicle lift feature. With this nice feature onboard, owners of this car will be able to raise the clearance by up to 25 mm at the rear and 40 mm at the front in order to escape the bumps. The good thing is the vehicle can ride in a raised state at speeds of up to 37 miles per hour.

As we can see, the 2013 MP4-12C Spider is ready for order and deliveries should come in November. If you want to have some fun you can go to the McLaren website, where you can play with the new configurator.
